Multi-paradigm, dynamically typed and procedural scripting language. It was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994, after he wrote several Common Gateway Interface (CGI) programs for his website, extended them to work with web forms, and released the implementation for web application development. It has tools for interacting with database management systems, automatically extracting the values of GET and POST parameters, and working with cookies, XForms, HTTP authorization, and local and remote files. Popular implementations include Facebook and Wikipedia. It is distributed under the PHP License.
