Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a GSM network communications protocol allowing text-based communication between mobile phones and the mobile network operator, for the purposes of providing application-related information to customers. Implementations include WAP browsing, prepaid callback services, location-based content services, and information services. The technology is session-oriented, meaning communication between the subscriber and application takes place in a single session with a two-way exchange of data. USSD messages can be up to 182 characters in length.
A project for a mobile content provider: sending information via the networks of the major mobile operators; SMPP router for sharing the cost of hotline connections between several services: a centre for notifying factory workers via SMS; production of images, melodies, ringtones, logos, and mobile games; website design for selling content.
