The Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is an open-source runtime used to transfer data between applications within the .NET Framework. Initially codenamed Indigo, it was released in 2006 by Microsoft as a service-oriented architecture (SOA) solution. Based on the principle of interoperability, WCF offers a unified programming model to support distributed computing where clients can consume multiple services and services can be delivered to multiple clients. Services have a Web Services Description Language (WSDL) interface, and can be hosted using IIS or Windows services, or self-hosted.
Video surveillance in a hospital can be set as always on or be activated at the doctor's command during surgery with the help of a foot switch. Video files of recorded surgical operations are saved to a server and catalogued. The hospital staff can watch the video from the hospital network and discuss it on a message board using tablet computers. Patients can purchase the recordings for an extra charge.
