Windows operating system component based on C++ and supporting the creation of vector images in the programming of device-independent applications. The features offered fall into three broad categories: 2D vector graphics, imaging and typography. It has been included in Windows installations since the introduction of XP in 2001, and forms part of the GDI (graphical device interface) ecosystem, itself an element of the wider .NET Framework. GDI+ brought new functionality for users, including floating point coordinates, gradient shading, and intrinsic support for formats such as JPEG and PNG.
