A set of closely coordinated computers, connected by high-speed links and operating as a single hardware resource. Key categories of clusters include high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, load-balancing clusters, and high-availability (HA), or failover clusters. The first commercial cluster was Datapoint Corporation's Attached Resource Computer (ARC) system, which used ARCNET as its networking interface. Advantages of clusters include fault tolerance, centralised management, data recovery and improved performance through the horizontal addition of nodes.
Vivaldi is a platform offering network access for electronic libraries. Books, educational materials and research documents can be viewed online or at one of the virtual reading rooms established in Russian universities. Reading rooms are located in large universities. The volume of literature is growing as new members join the library and publish their collections.
Enables study of the inner structure of an object to an accuracy of up to 1 micron by a non-destructive method. The software controls x-ray equipment which makes 360° snapshots of cross sections in increments of 1°. A 3D voxel model is then built. The reconstruction speed is increased by an expandable computing cluster with CUDA.
